Fatal Collision: Tahmeed Bus Crashes Head-On with Tanker in Busia

A devastating incident unfolded at Mundika market as witnesses reported a tragic collision between an oil tanker and a Mombasa-bound bus. Shockingly, nearly all passengers are believed to have perished in the aftermath, as depicted in videos circulating online, revealing charred remains strewn across the scene.

Bystanders gathered at the market, attempting to rescue any possible survivors amidst the heartbreaking scene of smoke billowing from the tanker. The County Government Fire and Rescue Services team was deployed to salvage remnants and manage the aftermath.

The Motorists Association of Kenya swiftly condemned the tragic explosion, emphasizing the need for urgent action to prevent future accidents. The collision prompted expressions of condolences from public figures, including Busia Senator Okiya Omtatah, who extended sympathies to the grieving families and friends.

The incident echoes a recent event where another Mombasa-bound bus, belonging to Tahmeed, caught fire mid-journey on February 4, 2024. In that instance along the Nairobi-Mombasa highway, all 48 passengers were successfully evacuated, highlighting the importance of quick and effective response measures.

These tragic accidents underscore the critical importance of enhancing road safety measures and enforcing preventative actions to avert such devastating incidents in the future. As the community mourns the loss of lives, there is a collective call for comprehensive measures to address road safety challenges and protect the lives of commuters.
